To protect the vehicle electronics of new vehicle models, many manufacturers are already relying on individual solutions with different access requirements and concepts. This disordered situation represents a major technical and administrative challenge, especially for independent multi-brand workshops. Bosch has therefore developed Secure Diagnostic Access (SDA), a central, integrated and standardized solution that enables uncomplicated access to protected vehicle data across manufacturers. Initially, it is planned that access to vehicles from VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda will be available via SDA. The SDA coverage is continuously being expanded with other vehicle manufacturers who are gradually protecting their vehicles from unauthorized access.

Thanks to SDA, workshops can continue to carry out extensive diagnostic work on vehicles with protected diagnostic data in full. The new function will be available from summer 2021 and is part of the Bosch Esitronic 2.0 Online diagnostic software. After a one-time registration, the workshop employee receives his personal access and can activate and access the access-protected diagnostic functions via SDA directly and without further detours.

Bosch ID for uncomplicated access to protected diagnostic content

Without access to protected diagnostic functions, the workshop can in many cases only carry out passive diagnostic activities on a customer vehicle, such as reading out the error codes. Active diagnostic work, such as the calibration of driver assistance systems, may then no longer be possible. Even the service deferral may no longer be possible. For this work, a fee-based access is usually required for the manufacturers’ individual solutions. This process is simplified with the standardized Secure Diagnostic Access solution from Bosch. The workshop employee no longer has to find their way around the various manufacturer portals, register, log in and, in some cases, keep an eye on various payment options. SDA bundles the individual solutions of the vehicle manufacturers and is part of the control unit diagnosis of the diagnosis software Esitronic 2.0 Online from Bosch. Authorized via his Bosch ID in the Esitronic, the user has central, integrated access to the protected diagnostic content despite the different security solutions offered by the vehicle manufacturers. In order to receive the personal Bosch ID, the workshop employee only has to register once. The workshop employee can use the personal Bosch ID not only to access protected diagnostic content within the Esitronic, but also for a large number of other Bosch applications – both professionally and privately, such as for his e-bike or smart home applications. Another advantage of the Bosch ID: From November 2021, this can also be used to book technical training courses in the Bosch Service Training Centers. In the one-time registration process, in addition to creating the Bosch ID, online user identification may also be required. For this purpose, as with the opening of an online bank account, an external service provider carries out online identification with the help of an identification document.

With SDA, the workshop does not have to worry about billing or costs. Secure Diagnostic Access from Bosch offers a kind of flat rate. The costs for using the protected diagnostic data are already included in the license fee for the ECU diagnostics (SD).

With SDA, the multi-brand workshop remains competitive

With central access to access-protected diagnostic content from various manufacturers via Secure Diagnostic Access from Bosch, the workshop saves time and money and increases the efficiency of the diagnostic processes. The multi-brand workshop in particular secures its competitiveness with SDA, because it can continue to carry out extensive diagnostic work on various vehicles in a time-saving and efficient manner. The prerequisite for using Secure Diagnostic Access is the Esitronic 2.0 Online diagnostic software and a valid license for control unit diagnostics (SD) as well as a stable internet connection. A diagnostic tester from the current KTS generation from Bosch, such as the KTS 560, KTS 590, KTS 350 or KTS 250, is also required.
